The Bubble Bead Filter (BBF)
Bubble Bead Filters boasts a non-corrosive food grade polyethylene plastic construction with no mechanical parts to service except the blower unit. These filters are designed for pressurized applications operating with swimming pool pumps providing high volumes of flow. However, with the BBF you require a pump size down from operating a swimming pool sand filter, resulting in a cost saving on electricity.
The BBF in essence operate like an upside-down swimming pool sand filter, but instead of using sand, plastic beads are used. The plastic beads are floating at the top to form a packed bed of floating media.
The BBF is compact and easy to install, supply exceptional solids removal as well as biological filtration. The filter is easy to maintain with a simple backwash procedure and low water loss during the backwash procedure. Backwash procedure will vary among individual applications and seasons.
Bubble Bead Filters are available in two sizes suitable for pond volumes of 2 000 liters up to 30 000 liters.
These pond filters have the ability to accomplish excellent mechanical filtration, will clean solids 15 microns and smaller, while simultaneously offering good biological filtration in a single unit. The BBF requires far less space than alternative biological filters, in other words the footprint of the filter is very small making the filter very popular for the Townhouse set-up. These filters utilize a paced bed media to strain solid waste as well as provide massive surface area for nitrifying bacteria. However, to combine the BBF with a Bio Booster for extra biological filtration will most defiantly guarantee better water quality. The Ultraviolet light units are often placed after the BBF to provide for disease control. The addition of UV lights/sterilizers to pond treatment systems will also effectively control algae blooms during the summer season.
